Towards sustainable fisheries in Tunisia

To foster the dialogue among stakeholders and promote the concept of sustainable fisheries in Marine Protected Areas in northern Tunisia, the Agency for the Protection and Coastal Management (APAL) and WWF Mediterranean Tunis Office in collaboration with the General Directorate for Fisheries and Aquaculture, and the Tunisian Association for the Development of Artisanal Fisheries organized a training workshop in Bizerte, northern Tunisia, from 16 to 17 February 2012, within the framework of the MedPartnership and the activities of MedPAN.

The Mediterranean Sea will be at the center of discussions at the 6th World Water Forum, "the world's largest meeting around water" to take place in Marseille, France on 12- 17 March 2012 as MedPartnership partners, UNESCO in collaboration with PAP/RAC and GWP-Med, will be holding two events at this major international conference.

UNESCO-IHP launches a diagnostic analsysis for the Mediterranean coastal aquifers

For the first time, a supplement on coastal aquifers and groundwater to the Mediterranean Transboundary Diagnostic Analysis (TDA) will be undertaken to enhance knowledge of the unique role that coastal aquifers play in reducing land-based sources of pollution into the Mediterranean Sea and for the conservation of ecosystem by UNESCO-IHP.

Launching of an ICZM Strategy for Algeria

On January 25, a meeting to launch the national ICZM strategy for Algeria and the Reghaia coastal plan was held at the premises of the Algerian Ministry of Land-use Planning and Environment (MATE) in Algiers. The meeting was attended by more than 50 participants including representatives of national, regional and local authorities, as well as representatives of national associations and organizations concerned with the Algerian coastal zone.

Organising greener events in the Mediterranean

On 14 December 2011, the Mediterranean Information Office for Environment Culture and Sustainable Development (MIO-ECSDE) and UNEP/MAP's Regional Activity Centre for Cleaner Production (CP/RAC) held a Mediterranean workshop on organizing events in line with sustainability principles.
