Legal and Policy Aspects:
As sound legal mechanisms and strong governance are essential requirements for any comprehensive conservation and sustainable development programme, PERSGA completed a review of all existing marine environmental legislation at the regional and national scales in the RSGA Region (1). This review has contributed to a more effective policy climate with regard to linkages between national-regional-international legislative instruments, essential to foster more ecosystem and habitat-based management of the Region—an ecosystem approach that necessarily considers the human dynamic as well.
